The Olympian Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the University City Centurions at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. University City took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Olympian, who comes in off a win.
Olympian took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Granite Hills, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Olympian narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Granite Hills 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Olympian has posted since March 1st.
Alexandra Perez spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on nine hits.
At the plate, Olympian let Samantha Becerra and Jaiden Liera run wild. Becerra went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Liera went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits Becerra has posted since back in March. Kailynn Robeson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
Meanwhile, University City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Clairemont, falling 15-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Centurions have suffered against the Chieftains since April 29, 2016.
University City saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alyssa Castillo, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
The victory made it two in a row for Olympian and bumps their season record up to 6-11-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for University City, their loss dropped their record down to 5-13-1.
Olympian took their victory against University City in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 11-1 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Centurions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
