Basketball Recap: Kearns Sets Scoring Season-High Against Skyline

Kearns scored the most points they've had this season on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 61-54 to the Skyline Eagles. The Cougars have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Kearns lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ava Tupou, who posted 16 points in addition to eight steals and seven rebounds. Tupou is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Lia Benson, who had nine points in addition to eight boards and seven steals.

Even though they lost, Kearns smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Skyline's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Estella Myers, who went 9 of 18 on her way to 24 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashley Price, who posted 14 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.

Kearns now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Skyline, their victory ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-5.

Kearns didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-51 loss against Hillcrest on the 13th. As for Skyline, they will welcome Spanish Fork at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
