For Hampton Prep, this counts as revenge for the 71-26 loss Gateway Charter Academy walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2022.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hampton Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alijah Walker, who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominic Phillips, who scored 11 points.
Gateway Charter Academy's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Khing Williams, who scored 14 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Williams scored a full 36.8% of Gateway Charter Academy's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Bobby Williams, who scored 12 points.
Hampton Prep's win bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Gateway Charter Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hampton Prep will square off against Red Oak at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Red Oak presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Hampton Prep in Texas (Red Oak is ranked 538th, while Hampton Prep is ranked 1210th). As for Gateway Charter Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Kerens at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
