After flying high against St. Joseph last Wednesday, West Side came back down to earth. The West Side Eagles fell 16-12 to the Calico Rock Pirates on Tuesday. Both teams can probably skip cardio this week after making that many trips around the bases.
Lacy Baker was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Baker was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Lilly Stevens was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Lexi England was another key contributor, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
West Side's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-4. As for Calico Rock, they pushed their record up to 7-4 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Side will square off against Hillcrest at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. West Side knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with flashy run totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Hillcrest likes a good challenge. As for Calico Rock, they will head out on the road to face off against Concord at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
