The Cripple Creek-Victor Pioneers lost against the Custer County Bobcats back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Cripple Creek-Victor took a 47-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Custer County. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Cripple Creek-Victor in their matchups with Custer County: they've now lost five in a row.
Cripple Creek-Victor's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luciano Varas, who scored 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Varas has scored all season. Tony Woods was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Custer County can attribute much of their success to Christopher Mullett, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Mullett has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Levi Caricner, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Cripple Creek-Victor has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Custer County, their win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cripple Creek-Victor will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Hanover at 6:30 p.m. on January 18th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Hanover is ranked 312th, while Cripple Creek-Victor is ranked 303rd). As for Custer County, they will head out on the road to challenge Lamar at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Lamar focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday.
