The Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 59-24 loss at the hands of Burlington. Genoa-Hugo/Karval has not had much luck with Burlington recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Genoa-Hugo/Karval lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Chiara Pasquetti, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Trinitee Holmes continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Burlington, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Holmes hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Kiyarra Williams was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Genoa-Hugo/Karval's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.0 points per game. As for Burlington, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Genoa-Hugo/Karval won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Cheyenne Wells at 5:00 p.m. on January 20th. Hopefully Cheyenne Wells focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday. Burlington won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Colorado Springs School at 2:30 p.m. on January 20th. Colorado Springs School comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
