Mountain Heritage is 10-0 against Owen since February of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Mountain Heritage Cougars will face off against the Owen Warhorses at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mountain Heritage has three straight victories, Owen has 12 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
Mountain Heritage's tournament run continued when they took on Travelers Rest on Monday. Mountain Heritage walked away with a 42-29 win over Travelers Rest. The 42-point effort marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
It was another big night for Lilly Neill, who posted seven points along with seven boards and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Cloey Morrow, who earned seven points and three steals.
Mountain Heritage smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Owen scored the most points they've had this season on Monday, but it wasn't enough. They came up short against Tuscola, falling 68-42.
Despite the defeat, Owen saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Mia Roland dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 boards. That's the most points Roland has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Elly Wright, who had ten points and seven rebounds.
Mountain Heritage pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points per game. As for Owen, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Mountain Heritage hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 55.8 points per game. It's a different story for Owen, though, as they've been averaging only 22.1 points. The only thing between Mountain Heritage and another offensive beatdown is Owen. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Everything came up roses for Mountain Heritage against Owen in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 72-32 win. Will Mountain Heritage repeat their success, or does Owen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
