The Westerville South Wildcats came tearing into Friday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They escaped with a win against Worthington Kilbourne by the margin of a single free throw, 38-37. Given Westerville South's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while Worthington Kilbourne is ranked 269th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Westerville South got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Deziah Dupree out in front who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Cirrye White was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
Westerville South pushed their record up to 9-3 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. As for Worthington Kilbourne, they now have a losing record at 6-7.
Westerville South won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Unioto at 12:00 p.m. on January 13th. Unioto knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 13 matches -- so hopefully Westerville South likes a good challenge. As for Worthington Kilbourne, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Olentangy Orange at 7:30 p.m.
