Key dropped their record down to 9-6 on Monday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Pallotti Panthers by a score of 7-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-6 back in April.
Alex Neenan was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Aidan Stewart made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sean Flynn, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
As for Pallotti, the win got them back to even at 11-11. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since May 17, 2024.
Like Key, Pallotti also got a great game from a two-way player: Robert Gamble. On the mound, he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Gamble also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Pallotti is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-11 otherwise. Gamble was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Gus Chackmakian-Lodge was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Pallotti's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-2 (and 7-9 when he doesn't). Steven Buckner was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
As of now, neither Key nor Pallotti have any future games scheduled.
