The Westview Warriors's game on Wednesday was all tied up 15-15 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell just short of Lakeland by a score of 37-34. Westview was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Lakeland apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Westview lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Karis Weinberg, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. That's the first time this season that Weinberg scored 15 or more points. Janissa Lehman was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Westview were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Lakeland can attribute much of their success to Cara Schackow, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and five blocks. Those five blocks set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Mckenzie Carlson, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Westview's defeat dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Lakeland, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-14.
Westview won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Garrett at 6:00 p.m. on January 11th. Garrett and Westview are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. Lakeland won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Fairfield at 6:00 p.m. on January 11th. Fairfield will be looking to keep their nine-game home win streak alive.
