Softball Recap: West Park Sets Scoring Season-High Against Grant

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Park). They blew past the Grant Pacers 34-2 on Tuesday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Dominique Basubas made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Basubas was also big at the plate, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jenna Missio and Kayla Bowles did most of the damage at the plate: Missio went 3-for-4 with five runs, five RBI, and one double, while Bowles went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those four hits gave Bowles a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mady Schultze, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

West Park always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win (which was West Park's fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-5. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.3 runs over those games. As for Grant, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12-1.

The Panthers are on a three-game streak of home wins, the Lions a four-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind. Meanwhile, Grant will take on rival Antelope at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
