Basketball Game Preview: East Coweta Indians vs. Westlake Lions

The East Coweta Indians will head out to take on the Westlake Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. East Coweta knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matchups -- so hopefully Westlake likes a good challenge.

East Coweta is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their game on Monday with ease, bagging an 87-49 victory over Stephenson. Given the Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while the Jaguars are ranked 330th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

East Coweta's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Harper Rife led the charge by going 7 of 14 on his way to 22 points and five assists. The contest was Rife's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Qwes Williams was another key player, going 7 for 12 en route to 19 points in addition to seven boards and four blocks.

Rife wasn't the only one working in the assists department: East Coweta was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Westlake blew past Spencer, posting an 86-53 win. The Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 24 points or more this season.

East Coweta is also on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.1 points per game. As for Westlake, their victory bumped their record up to 13-6.

Things could have been worse for East Coweta, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 78-59 loss to Westlake in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can East Coweta avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
