The Herbert Hoover Huskies are taking a road trip to take on the Spring Valley Timberwolves at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Herbert Hoover comes in on three and Spring Valley on four.
Herbert Hoover proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 15) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Point Pleasant a 1-0 shutout.
Not much got past Owen Jackson, who gave up just a hit to keep Point Pleasant off the board.
On the hitting side, Herbert Hoover saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sam Kee, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Lincoln County typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Spring Valley proved too difficult a challenge. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Panthers. Considering the Timberwolves have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Bennett Rich spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Parker Phillips was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Caiden Lovejoy was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Spring Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lincoln County only posted a batting average of .200.
Herbert Hoover's record now sits at 15-9. As for Spring Valley, their record is now 18-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Herbert Hoover has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Spring Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
