Softball Recap: Merced Snags Eighth Victory in Last Nine Games

Merced's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Buhach Colony Thunder an 11-0 shutout. Considering the Bears have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Annalise Ramirez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Waldron, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Antonia Lejarde, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Merced was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Buhach Colony only posted a batting average of .118.

Merced is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. Buhach Colony is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Merced is set to face off against their familiar foe Los Banos at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Merced 1.3, Los Banos 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Buhach Colony will take on rival Golden Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
