4A Region I District 3 recap November 5, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Palo Duro, who took down 302nd ranked Caprock, 55-21. Anthony McClain ran for 128 yards during the win.
The Dons scaled the state rankings by moving to 279 from 327 this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region I District 3. Palo Duro climbed the ranks as a result of besting the Longhorns 55-21.
Santiago Nunez threw for 238 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 19-41 with 2 interceptions.
Austin Cruz was the best wideout in the league this week as Caprock fell to Steve Parr's team. Cruz racked up 3 receptions for 90 yards. Adonus Chatman helped Caprock's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 66 yards.
The Longhorns' Victor Rodriguez and Cruz have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Rodriguez has thrown for 1,630 yards this season, while Cruz has 32 catches for 479 yards. McClain from the Dons leads the league in rushing with 958 yards.
McClain of the Palo Duro is just 42 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 117 carries McClain has accumulated 958 yard this year.
At the moment, the Eagles are in first, while the Dons are in fourth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Canyon takes on Palo Duro. Blake Bryant's team has allowed 124 points this season, while the Dons have given up 157.
Adding to the longest winning streak in 4A Region I District 3 this week, the Eagles beat Amarillo 49-28. This was the team's ninth consecutive win.
