The Baptist Hill Bobcats lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on on Wednesday was a bit more commanding. Their tough 43-19 loss to Cross might stick with them for a while. Baptist Hill has not had much luck with Cross recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Despite the loss, Baptist Hill still got an impressive performance from Emerald Alford, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Alford is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Baptist Hill struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Cross racked up 12 assists.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cross to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zhnia Fredricks, who scored 16 points along with two steals. Lauren Middleton was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
Baptist Hill bumped their record down to 2-7 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.3 points per game. As for Cross, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-2.
Baptist Hill will be playing at home against St. John's at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. St. John's has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Cross, they will head out on the road to challenge Charleston Math & Science at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Charleston Math & Science will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while Cross is ranked 78th).
