Softball Recap: Plainfield East Has No Trouble Against Metea Valley

Plainfield East barely beat Metea Valley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Plainfield East blew past Metea Valley 13-2 on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bengals considering their one-run performance the contest before.

Avery Welsh made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Welsh was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Marie Marcum was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one double. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Natalie Utrata, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Plainfield East always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Metea Valley only posted an OBP of .211.

The win got Plainfield East back to even at 1-1. As for Metea Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Plainfield East will face off against St. Charles East at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Metea Valley, they will head out to take on Addison Trail at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
