The New Bremen Cardinals will venture away from home to square off against the Ansonia Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. New Bremen is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
On Friday, New Bremen came up short against Bradford and fell 9-6. The Cardinals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lydia Bushman was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Abby Homan made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. She also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season. Olivia Thornton was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Ansonia took on Minster on Friday. The Tigers fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 4-3. The Tigers have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Ava Thatcher was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Shyann McKenna, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
New Bremen's record now sits at 2-2. As for Ansonia, their record is now 1-4.
Ansonia's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: New Bremen has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .436. It's a different story for Ansonia, though, as they've only averaged .259. Will they be able to contain New Bremen's hitters?
New Bremen was able to grind out a solid win over Ansonia in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 5-1. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
