The La Jolla Country Day Torreys had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Grossmont 73-34 on the road. Considering La Jolla Country Day has won eight contests by more than 19 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Jaden Mangini continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 429 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 13.4 yards per attempt, and also rushing for 113 yards and four touchdowns. Mangini hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for three straight games. Madden Craig was another key contributor, picking up 194 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to La Jolla Country Day's defensive line and their four sacks. Christopher Hughes was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three sacks himself.
When it comes to explaining why Grossmont lost, one person who can't be blamed is Hudson Herber. Despite the final result, he threw for 291 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in two rushing scores.
The win (which was La Jolla Country Day's sixth in a row) raised their record to 11-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.2 points per game. As for Grossmont, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
La Jolla Country Day is on the road again on Saturday and play against Banning at 7:00 p.m. on December 2nd. Banning will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Grossmont does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
