Basketball Recap: Vela Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Vela entered their tilt with McAllen on Friday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They snuck past the McAllen Bulldogs with a 55-51 win. That's more bragging rights for the Sabercats, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Vela was led to victory by Jordan Bustamante and Jp Olivarez. Bustamante dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten boards, while Olivarez posted 14 points. The contest was Bustamante's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Aden Ybarra was another key player, putting up ten points.

When it comes to explaining why McAllen lost, don't look at D'Aundre Canada. Despite the final result, he went 8 of 13 on his way to 24 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Canada a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Gonzalez, who put up 12 points.

Vela is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season. As for McAllen, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-7.

Vela wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 64-43 victory against Sharyland on the 28th. As for McAllen, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 76-40 win against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial on the 28th.
