With a playoff game on the line, the Shelby Golden Lions rose to the challenge on Friday. They walked away with a 37-30 victory over the Yellow Jackets. Winning may never get old, but Shelby sure are getting used to it with their 11th in a row.
Leading Shelby to victory were Lan Farmer and Izay Bridges. Farmer threw for 255 yards and two touchdowns, while Bridges gained 216 total yards and three touchdowns. Bridges' longest reception was for an incredible 83 yards.
Another reason for the win was Shelby's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. In that department, Justyn Ross was the leader with two sacks.
Forest Hills' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Brady Hibbard, who threw for 310 yards and two touchdowns, and Jerel Bolder who picked up 200 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Shelby's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.7 points per game. As for Forest Hills, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-2.
Shelby will head out on the road to face off against Reidsville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Reidsville's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine contests. Forest Hills does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
