Football Recap: Mccook Piles Up the Points Against Hastings

McCook got themselves on the board against Hastings on Friday, but Hastings never followed suit. They breezed past the Tigers to the tune of 33-0. The Bison might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by 24 points or more this season.

Tristan Campbell was his usual excellent self, rushing for 248 yards and four TDs while picking up 11.8 yards per carry. His longest rush was for an incredible 81 yards. Miles Pollmann did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 89 receiving yards.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something McCook proved: they limited Hastings to a paltry 0.9 yards per carry. While two picked up at least seven total tackles, Campbell stood above the rest. He rushed for 248 yards and four scores while picking up 11.8 yards per carry. McCook hasn't allowed more than 6.3 yards per carry in three consecutive games.

McCook didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Asher Wilson, Campbell, and Oliver Corbett picked up one apiece. Corbett has been hot, having also posted five or more total tackles the last five times he's played.

McCook pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 7.7 points on average over those games. As for Hastings, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. McCook will challenge Ogallala at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bison are facing the Indians at the right time seeing as the Indians are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Hastings, they will take on Scottsbluff on Friday. The Bearcats' defense has only allowed nine points per game this season, so the Tigers' offense will have their work cut out for them.
