Basketball Recap: Myles Coons Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Roosevelt

Saugerties hadn't done well against Roosevelt recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Saugerties Sawyers came out on top against the Roosevelt Presidents by a score of 62-49. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 74-63 on January 10th.

Saugerties' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Myles Coons led the charge by dropping a double-double on 17 points and 13 boards. The dominant performance gave Coons a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jack Parisio, who posted 13 points in addition to eight boards and five assists.

Saugerties smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

Saugerties pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Roosevelt, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Saugerties will welcome Red Hook at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Red Hook will roll in looking for their 13th straight win, something Saugerties surely won't give up without a fight. As for Roosevelt, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Our Lady of Lourdes at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Our Lady of Lourdes knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Roosevelt likes a good challenge.
