This season hasn't been kind to the Salmon River Shamrocks, who are still winless after their eighth contest. They were dealt a 74-35 defeat at the hands of Massena on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Salmon River can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 710th, while Massena is ranked 226th).
Leading Massena to victory were Colin Patterson and Taylor Mitchell. Patterson scored 22 points along with three steals, while Mitchell scored 22 points along with five assists and four steals. Mitchell hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Chris Boyea, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Salmon River bumped their record down to 0-8 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Massena, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Salmon River will face off against Gouverneur at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Gouverneur is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Massena, they will head out on the road to take on Heuvelton Central at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
