The Academy and Jefferson Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Jaguars at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for The Academy and eight for Jefferson Academy.
The Academy couldn't beat Fort Morgan on Monday even though they stacked six runs on them in the seventh inning. The Wildcats fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 11-10. Even if the Wildcats couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Brennan Staudinger was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Dylan Akers was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Kameron Forsyth was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Colorado Academy hit Jefferson Academy with a five-run third inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Jaguars came up short against the Mustangs, falling 14-4.
Jefferson Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Austen Bauer, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another was Ben Pederson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Jefferson Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 2-15-1. As for The Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 5-12.
The Academy's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Wildcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Jefferson Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will The Academy continue to outrun the ball?
The Academy skirted past Jefferson Academy 5-4 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Jaguars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
