Big Ten recap October 1, 2013
Fairmont added to the longest winning streak in Big Ten this week by beating Elkins, 48-13. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Polar Bears.
Preston was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from ninth to seventh in the league. Earlier in the week, the Knights triumphed over North Marion 41-14.
Cole Collins put up the best numbers through the air as Grafton lost to Byrd. He finished with a total of 14 completions for 171 yards and 2 touchdowns. Collins' favorite target this week was Tyler Moore, who caught 7 passes for 61 yards.
The Bearcats' Collins and Moore led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Collins has thrown for 497 yards this season, while Moore, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 16 catches for 201 yards. Anthony Bonamico from Bridgeport leads the league in rushing with 628 yards.
The most important game in Big Ten this week will be the match up between the Indians and Fairmont. Bridgeport enters the game ranked 17th in the state, while the Polar Bears ranks 23rd.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Josh Nicewarner's team takes on Fairmont. The Indians' offense has scored 196 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Polar Bears have allowed only 46 on the year.
Fairmont was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating the Tigers. The Polar Bears came in at 23 in the state poll after placing at number 27 last week.
