Softball Recap: Langtree Charter Academy Takes a Loss

Langtree Charter Academy had lost five straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 1-14 to make it six. They came up short against the Corvian Community Cardinals, falling 16-8. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-15 on Tuesday.

Reese Horton and Addison Longino did some serious damage despite the final result: Horton went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs, while Longino went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. Longino is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Payton Drake also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.

As for Corvian Community, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-9. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.

On Corvian Community's side, Emily Johnson and Cassidy Masten did most of the damage at the plate: Johnson got on base in all five of her plate appearances with eight stolen bases and five runs, while Masten got on base in four of her five plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Johnson continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Elle Chapman, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

While Langtree Charter Academy had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
