The Cheylin Cougars extended their postseason success on Friday against the Ashland Blue Jays. They claimed a resounding 66-27 victory over the Blue Jays on the road. Cheylin's win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Cheylin's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Logan McCarty, who threw for 363 yards and four touchdowns on only 19 passes, and also rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries. McCarty hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Pablo Bermudez, who gained 173 total yards and four touchdowns.
Defeat or not, Ashland got some senior leadership from Landen McPhail who gained 134 total yards and two touchdowns and Kale Harris who gained 89 total yards and two touchdowns. McPhail was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 54 yards.
Cheylin's victory bumped their record up to 11-0. As for Ashland, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-2.
Cheylin will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Cunningham at 1:00 p.m. on November 25th. Cunningham is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Ashland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
