After flying high against the Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars last Friday, the Northwest Halifax Vikings came back down to earth. Northwest Halifax was just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 62-61 to North Edgecombe. It was the first time this season that Northwest Halifax let down their fans at home.
Despite the loss, Northwest Halifax still got an impressive performance from Camaya Adkins, who scored 31 points. Adkins scored a full 50.8% of Northwest Halifax's points, the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Taniya High was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.
Northwest Halifax's defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-2. As for North Edgecombe, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northwest Halifax won't have much time to rest: their next match is against KIPP P at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. KIPP P comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for North Edgecombe, they will be playing at home against Northampton County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Northampton County has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 253 points over their last four matchups.
