Baseball Recap: Peninsula Catholic's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Peninsula Catholic hadn't done well against Norfolk Collegiate recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Knights blew past the Mighty Oaks 11-2. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Knights as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Austin Muth made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Those 14 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Peninsula Catholic let Simon Payntar and Aidan Casey run wild. Payntar scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Casey scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. What's more, Casey posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Garrett Robison, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Peninsula Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Norfolk Collegiate only posted a batting average of .208.

Peninsula Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Norfolk Collegiate, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Peninsula Catholic and Norfolk Collegiate could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Knights will square off against Cape Henry Collegiate at 4:30 p.m. on the 29th with a big rank disadvantage (279 vs. 53). Meanwhile, Norfolk Collegiate (ranked 332nd) will meet Nansemond-Suffolk Academy (ranked 83rd) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
