3A District 5 recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Western Dubuque, who took down 57th ranked Western Dubuque, 12-10. Kolter Freidhof threw for 182 yards and one touchdown and ran for 14 yards in the win.
Decorah-North Winneshiek extended the longest winning streak in 3A District 5 this week by beating West Delaware, 37-13. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Vikings.
Crestwood's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Matthew Cuvelier chipped in 63 yards. Spencer Bohr helped Crestwood's passing attack out by catching five balls for 80 yards.
Bohr made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Cadets topped the Bobcats. The 6-foot-2 junior grabbed one interception.
Jeffrey Haskovec was the best wideout in the league this week as Crestwood beat Western Dubuque. Haskovec racked up three receptions for 98 yards.
Crestwood's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Cadets feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Freidhof has thrown for 671 yards and four touchdowns this season, while Bohr has 19 catches for 247 yards. Kody Sindelar leads the league in rushing with 218 yards.
A big matchup in 3A District 5 this week will be when Decorah-North Winneshiek takes on Vinton-Shellsburg. At the moment, Bill Post's team is in first, while the Vikings are in third.
The Hawks suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 37-13 loss to the Vikings. West Delaware had been ranked 23rd, but fell to 40 following the defeat.
