A well-balanced attack led the Austin Maroons over the Akins Eagles in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Austin blew the Eagles out of the water with a 58-31 final score. With Austin ahead 33-10 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Kemah Shaw was her usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with five steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Foley Anderson was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Akins lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Lily Gonzalez-espinal, who scored four points along with ten rebounds and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Crystal Duncan, who scored four points along with two steals.
Austin has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-18 record this season. As for Akins, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-15.
Austin will head out on the road to square off against the Chaparrals at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Westlake will be looking to keep their eight-game home win streak alive. Akins will take on the Bulldogs at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bowie knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully the Eagles likes a good challenge.
