Softball Recap: Pioneer Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Pioneer had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Culver Community Cavaliers. That's more bragging rights for the Panthers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Culver Community's batters probably weren't too happy with Lois Layer, who pitched a no hitter (she gave up two walks). Layer has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lucy Angle was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Hollie Zellers was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Pioneer's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Culver Community, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-9.

Pioneer didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 15-2 win against Benton Central on the 9th. As for Culver Community, they will be playing at home against Triton at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
