The York County Tech Spartans will face off against the Biglerville Canners at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. York County Tech is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, York County Tech turned things around against Hanover on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Nighthawks a 19-0 shutout. Considering the Spartans have won three matchups by more than ten runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Raelynn Kelley made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Kelley was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.
In other batting news, York County Tech got a massive performance out of Allie Wersinger, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Cadence Sawyer was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one double.
York County Tech always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hanover only posted an OBP of .457.
Meanwhile, Biglerville lost 16-6 to New Oxford on Thursday. The Canners have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Biglerville saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jenna Walter, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
York County Tech's win bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Biglerville, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. York County Tech has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .472. However, it's not like Biglerville struggles in that department as they've averaged .501. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
