The Pius X Thunderbolts's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Omaha Westside Warriors at 7:15 p.m. on January 18th. Pius X will be strutting in after a victory while Omaha Westside will be coming in after a defeat.
Pius X was handed a two-point defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Norfolk on Tuesday. Pius X claimed a resounding 59-28 victory over Norfolk on the road. Given Pius X's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while Norfolk is ranked 154th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pius X's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ava Markowski led the charge by scoring seven points along with five assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Prichard, who scored seven points.
Meanwhile, Omaha Westside came up short against Papillion-LaVista South on Tuesday and fell 39-31.
Kara Stricklin put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 13 points.
Pius X is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for Omaha Westside, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.
Thursday's contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Pius X hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 51.2 points per game. It's a different story for Omaha Westside, though, as they've been averaging only 56.3 points per game. The only thing between Pius X and another offensive beatdown is Omaha Westside. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Everything went Pius X's way against Omaha Westside in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 as Pius X made off with a 59-39 win. Will Pius X repeat their success, or does Omaha Westside have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
