Fishers will head out on the road to challenge Yorktown at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Fishers is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Westfield hit Fishers with a four-run sixth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tigers fell 7-2 to the Shamrocks. The Tigers' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Fishers saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kate Murray, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Yorktown made sure to put some runs up on the board against Delta on Wednesday. The Tigers blew past the Eagles 21-1. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Olivia Jones was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Yorktown got a massive performance out of Brooklyn Bartle, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI. Those stolen bases marked the first that Bartle has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Olivia Jaromin, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Yorktown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Delta only posted an OBP of .238.
Yorktown's win was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Fishers, their loss dropped their record down to 9-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Fishers hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Yorktown struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Fishers came up short against Yorktown in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 4-1. Can Fishers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
