Kenzie Pierce spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Kassidy Bradbury was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Simpson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Independence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Logan fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Cabell Midland on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Knights by a score of 6-5. The Wildcats' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Logan also let their pitcher toss all ten innings and she was also dialed-in: Myleigh Adkins gave up five earned (and one unearned) runs on 13 hits and racked up 12 Ks. Adkins has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Emilee Mullins made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with two RBI. Ashlin Brumfield was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Independence is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8 runs. As for Logan, their loss dropped their record down to 16-4.
Independence's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's match. The Patriots have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Logan, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Independence continue to outrun the ball?
