The Avella Eagles will challenge the South Side Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Avella will bounce into Tuesday's contest after beating Mapletown, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Eagles put the hurt on the Maples with a sharp 12-2 win on Monday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Eagles needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Avrey Rado was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). Rado was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Emily Buel was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Johnson, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, South Side never let their opponents score on Monday. Everything went their way against Bishop Canevin as they made off with a 15-0 victory. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by 11 runs or more this season.
Like Avella, South Side also got a great game from a two-way player: Maya Ringhoff. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Ringhoff was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Anna Graff was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Halina Matijevich was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
South Side was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Avella has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for South Side, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-7.
Avella suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to South Side when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
