Sammy Santa Ana put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Polytechnic, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over Westridge on Friday. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Like Chadwick, Polytechnic also got a great game from a two-way player: Amelia Shih. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Shih was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Eila Chan was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two triples. That's the most triples she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Carthan Connolly, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Polytechnic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Chadwick's defeat dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Polytechnic, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Chadwick might still be hurting after the 6-0 loss they got from Polytechnic when the teams last played back in April. Will the Dolphins have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
