On Thursday, the Dakota Valley Panthers faced the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Dakota Valley fell 60-53 to the Huskies. Dakota Valley was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Huskies apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Despite the loss, Dakota Valley saw an underclassman step up: Ella Otten scored 21 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Cameryn Sommervold, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.
Dakota Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Elk Point-Jefferson, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 13-2.
Dakota Valley will square off against the Bulldogs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Elk Point-Jefferson, they will take on the Tigers at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Groton is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
