The Olympic Trojans are taking a road trip to take on the Central Cabarrus Vikings at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Olympic will be strutting in after a victory while Central Cabarrus will be coming in after a loss.
Olympic lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Harding University, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's contest. The Trojans put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 16-3 win on Friday. The Trojans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Joseangel Vasquez made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Vasquez was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Olympic got a massive performance out of Aiden Word, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those three runs gave Word a new career-high. Aiden Preston was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with five stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Olympic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Central Cabarrus fell victim to South Rowan and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 2-0. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Vikings' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Central Cabarrus saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carson Fink, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Central Cabarrus' defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Olympic, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
Olympic skirted past Central Cabarrus 5-3 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
