The Platte Valley Broncos will challenge the Brush Beetdiggers at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Platte Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Platte Valley will bounce into Monday's contest after beating Eaton, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Broncos won by a run and slipped past the Reds 6-5.
Hazen Weber was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Weber was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Nick Silvas was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Dagan Gomez also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Platte Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Brush waltzed into their match on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Fightin' Bulldogs by a score of 12-7.
The team relied heavily on Dylan Krob, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Malachi Thiel, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Brush's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Platte Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 11-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Platte Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Brush struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Platte Valley was able to grind out a solid win over Brush in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 9-5. Will the Broncos repeat their success, or do the Beetdiggers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
