The Hay Springs Hawks had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.6 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Oelrichs 61-27 at home. 61 seems to be a good number for Hay Springs as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Hay Springs was led to victory by Julia Russell and Gabby Twarling. Russell dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds, while Twarling dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Twarling has scored at least 25% of Hay Springs' points. Another player making a difference was Mya Turman, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Hay Springs is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. As for Oelrichs, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 3-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hay Springs will face off against Leyton on Saturday. Leyton is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. As for Oelrichs, they will head out on the road to face off against Takini at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Takini comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last five games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
