Leading Goose Creek to victory were Kali Peake and Demi Gray. Peake scored 6 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 steals, while Gray scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Aiyanna Moses, who scored 12 points.
Despite the defeat, Cardinal Newman saw an underclassman step up: Teonna Draughn scored 22 points along with 6 assists and 5 rebounds. Zara Thompson was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 13 rebounds and 5 blocks.
Goose Creek's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Cardinal Newman, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Goose Creek will square off against Westwood at 3:40 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (Westwood is ranked 16th, while Goose Creek is ranked 24th). As for Cardinal Newman, they will head out on the road to face off against Porter-Gaud at 10:20 a.m. on Saturday.
