This season hasn't been kind to the Fuquay - Varina Bengals, who are still winless after their fourth game. They took a 49-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Apex on Thursday. The match was a 21-21 toss-up at halftime, but Fuquay - Varina was blown out by Apex in the second.
Despite the loss, Fuquay - Varina still got an impressive performance from Drew Willis, who scored 11 points along with 7 rebounds. Willis scored a full 28.2% of Fuquay - Varina's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Paullin, who scored 8 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Apex to victory, but perhaps none more so than Adley Calhoun, who scored 16 points along with 5 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kody Frey, who scored 13 points along with 4 steals.
Fuquay - Varina bumped their record down to 0-4 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Apex, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Fuquay - Varina will head out on the road to face off against Middle Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Middle Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Wednesday. As for Apex, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Athens Drive at 6:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (Athens Drive is ranked 243rd, while Apex is ranked 242nd).
