Basketball Recap: Make It Seven in a Row for Oxford

Oxford entered their tilt with West Elk on Monday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They claimed a resounding 74-47 win over the West Elk Patriots. The contest marked the Wildcats' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Oxford got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kellen Green out in front who went 9 of 13 en route to 23 points along with seven boards and three steals. Green's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Cordell Jordan, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Oxford was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Elk only posted 13 assists.

Despite the loss, West Elk still got an impressive performance from Maddex Moreno, who went 8 for 14 on his way to 18 points in addition to six boards and five assists. The dominant performance also gave Moreno a new career-high in blocks (two). Kase Kill was another key player, going 5 of 9 en route to 13 points.

Oxford pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points per game. As for West Elk, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-6.

Oxford will challenge Sedan at 7:00 p.m. on January 28th. Oxford knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matchups -- so hopefully Sedan likes a good challenge. As for West Elk, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Udall at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st.
