The Seffner Christian Crusaders will challenge the Zephyrhills Christian Academy Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Seffner Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Seffner Christian came into this matchup off a tough ten-run loss on Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Cambridge Christian by a score of 3-1 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Crusaders have suffered since April 12, 2024.
Seffner Christian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kris Colondres, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Zephyrhills Christian Academy entered their tilt with Central Florida Christian Academy on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles a 17-0 shutout. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by seven runs or more this season.
Sergio Garcia made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tatum Dulaski, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. He is becoming a predictor of Zephyrhills Christian Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-1 (and 2-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Ward, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Zephyrhills Christian Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Central Florida Christian Academy only managed one hit.
Seffner Christian dropped their record down to 11-10 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Zephyrhills Christian Academy, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Seffner Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. However, it's not like Zephyrhills Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .349. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Seffner Christian took their victory against Zephyrhills Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in March of 2022 by a conclusive 16-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Crusaders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
