The Satellite Scorpions were the 22-14 winner over the Merritt Island Mustangs when they last played one another back in October of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Satellite fell 38-28 to Merritt Island on Friday. Satellite has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Several Scorpions players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Noah Flores, who rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. Atticus Henderson got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Merritt Island can attribute much of their success to Chris Kelly, who rushed for 196 yards and a touchdown. Kelly was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 58 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryder Varis, who picked up 72 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Satellite's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Merritt Island, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.
Satellite will head out on the road to face off against Palm Bay at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Palm Bay is ranked 153rd, while Satellite is ranked 170th). As for Merritt Island, they will be playing at home against Eustis at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Eustis will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
