Softball Recap: Wilmington Starts Season with Win Against Oil City

Wilmington took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Oil City Oilers as the Wilmington Greyhounds made off with a 14-4 win.

Ava Williamson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Williamson was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits.

In other batting news, Avery Harlan was a standout: she fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 3-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Karah Deal was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.

Wilmington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oil City only posted an OBP of .222.

Looking ahead, Wilmington will welcome Jamestown at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Oil City, they will venture away from home to challenge Girard at 4:00 p.m. on March 25th. Oil City has now lost 13 straight dating back to last season, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 20.
