Basketball Recap: Dazhaun Copeland Key Part of a Team Effort in Chargers Win

Cheney Tech proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 30) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Sports & Medical Sciences Academy Tigers, sneaking past 50-47. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Chargers have posted since December 20, 2023.

Cheney Tech's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dazhaun Copeland, who posted eight points and ten rebounds. What's more, Copeland also racked up two blocks, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Mohamed Camara was another key player, going 7 for 17 on his way to 16 points and three steals.

Cheney Tech smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Cheney Tech's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. As for Sports & Medical Sciences Academy, they moved to 7-1 with that loss, which also ended their seven-game winning streak.

Cheney Tech didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-53 defeat against Enfield on the 15th. Sports & Medical Sciences Academy has also already played their next match, a 54-51 victory against Cromwell on the 15th.
